IT’S panto season again, with a host of tops shows vying for your custom around the North East.

Here’s a round-up of what you can see, and where.

PANTO legends Ray Spencer and Bob Stott are leading the Christmas capers at the Customs House.
The South Shields venue reckons this year’s show, Puss In Boots, is its best yet.
It is the hilarious duo’s 35th year working together – and they still show no signs of retiring.
Bob said: “It certainly doesn’t feel like we’ve been doing this for 35 years.
“I don’t really count the years – I do it because I love it. I love getting on stage and entertaining all our friends, old and new.”
Returning to perform alongside Ray and Bob are Graham Overton (King Boris) and Peter Darrant (Osborne The Ogre).
Lucy Rafton and Afnan Iftikhar also make welcome returns to play Princess Cheryl and Much The Miller’s Son.

JACK And The Beanstalk will be the only pantomime staged in Sunderland city centre this year.
It will be performed at the Royalty Theatre, the city’s oldest community theatre.
The show has been written by Royalty Youth Theatre member Jonny Chambers.
Director Gary Ian Ward said: “The pantomime is always our biggest show of the year and we are hoping this year’s will be even more popular because there will be no panto at the Empire.
“There will be community pantomimes, but as there are only two theatres in the city, we will be the only full-scale theatre panto.”

GLASS slippers, laughs and romance are on the cards at Durham’s Gala Theatre.
The Durham City venue is hosting Cinderella until January 8, with a host of familiar faces and a real horse-drawn carriage.
Fence Houses actor Donald McBride will return for his third consecutive Gala panto outing, and this year appears as Sarah, one of the ugly sisters, alongside Spennymoor’s John Carter as Clara.
Joining Donald and John once again will be Seaham-born actor Neil Armstrong, who has been in pantomime every year since 1987.
Neil will play Cinderella’s step uncle, the evil Baron Gristle.
Completing the line-up of old friends will be Paul Hartley and Jane Deane as the comedy double act Buttons and Dishes.
Joining these Gala stalwarts will be some new faces.
Helen Embleton, pictured right, plays Fairy Marigold, having appeared last year as Narcissus in Sleeping Beauty at the Customs House, South Shields.
Australian Tom Caley plays the dashing Prince Charming with Sophie Michaels as his Cinderella.

AFTER leaving the cobbled streets of Weatherfield behind, Corrie star Tupele Dorgu has arrived in Newcastle to play an alluring sorceress.
The actress, who played Kelly Crabtree in the soap, joins award-winning comedy duo Danny Adams and Clive Webb – playing Robin Hood and Friar Tuck – for Robin Hood at the Theatre Royal.
Tupele, 33, rose to fame playing the role of brash and bolshie seamstress Kelly in the hit ITV soap, and has also had roles in Loose Women, Casualty and Merseybeat.
She left Coronation Street in March, after six years, in order to return to her first love – the stage. She has performed in many musicals including the West End production of Mamma Mia!
Tupele, Clive and Danny are joined by panto villain extraordinaire Steve Arnott as the Sheriff and another ex-Coronation Street star, Phil Corbitt, as the henchman.
* Robin Hood: The Pantomime Adventure is at the Theatre Royal until January 11. Tickets are £10 to £27 and can be bought from the box office on 08448 11 21 21.

DESPITE cancelling its panto Sleeping Beauty, the Sunderland Empire promises a festive treat with White Christmas.
Based on the 1954 film of the same name, the musical makes its North East debut at the High Street West venue.
It stars Tom Chambers, who was the winner of 2008′s Strictly Come Dancing, after wowing the audience and judges with his dancing and charisma.
He starred in Holby City as Sam Strachan and as Max Tyler in Waterloo Road, and for the Empire show takes on the role of Bob Wallace.
Adam Cooper, principal at the Royal Ballet, who has danced in Matthew Bourne’s Swan Lake, Billy Elliot The Movie, On Your Toes and Guys and Dolls in London’s West End,) will star as Phil Davis, the other half of the song and dance duo.
Brimming with classic Irving Berlin hits like Blue Skies, How Deep is the Ocean, Happy Holiday, Sisters and White Christmas, it tells the story of two buddies putting on a show in a Vermont Inn, and finding their perfect mates in the process.
* White Christmas is at the Empire until New Year’s Day. Tickets cost £15 to £39.50 from the 24-hour box office on 0844 847 2499.

Theatre bosses have already started taking ticket bookings for their next pantomime as they celebrate their most successful festive show.
The Gala, in Durham, has just finished its second in-house panto, Dick Whittington, which has broken a record as the venue’s most financially successful show of its own making.

Gala Director Simon Stallworthy said: “Two years ago, when we took the decision to bring our pantomime in-house, we had no idea how it would fare.

“I’m delighted that Dick Whittington has continued the trend that Aladdin started last year, and panto is now thriving at Gala.”

The 2010 pantomime, Cinderella, has already sold hundreds of tickets.
The Gala has confirmed that Fence Houses actor Donald McBride will return as one of the ugly sisters.

The team hopes to make more announcements soon about familiar faces who will make up the cast.

Mr Stallworthy added: “We’ve developed the relationship with our audience over the last couple of years and they know they’ll get a high quality show at affordable prices.

“We hope that Cinderella will deliver even more, and we promise magical and spectacular scenery, incredible transformation scenes and maybe even some live animals.”

Cinderella will run from Wednesday, December 1, to Saturday, January 8.
