Another excellent photo that has been found and this is probably better than most for its detail. Thanks to Geoff Robinson
The repairs to the wall of both the signal box and the station shed can clearly be seen where the accident damaged them when the trucks came adrift (I think you have the very poor picture of this already). The signaling is interesting and the gates are old. In the distance a steam train is about to shunt the guards van back into the sidings on the left (out of sight) and then push the empty coal hoppers up to Blackyboy for collection.
I cannot remember taking this photo – any idea of the date?

Picture of a Deltic taken in the old Station circa 1960s (Mid) when passengers were being bused from Durham to board trains to London (etc) due to repair work on the main line which closed it completely. They used to arrive in United buses.

This one is interesting although I apologise for the poor quality and was taken circa early 1960s by my Brownie camera.
It shows the NCB breakdown train attending an accident at the
crossing when the empty wagons being shunted off the main line
became derailed and smashed into the back of the up station platform
and the signal box as well as wrecking the gates. It was a miracle
that no one was hurt and the repairs to the wall of the signal cabin
(NCB side) and back station shelter could be seen right up to their
demolition. Its also a grained but interesting via of Lambton Road.
If you look carefully you can also see some of the wagons lying in the road.
Again Submited By Geoff Robinson
Thank You
