What sad news, the demon barber of Fence Houses has passed away. The stories that can be told?
I,ll start with what a lovely fella, Alf was. He cut my hair, my fathers hair and my grandfathers hair. (same style) the man was a legend in Fence Houses. He is affectionally talked about, in all of the pubs and clubs constantly. I am sure all the lads who have shuffled off this mortal coil are over the moon Alf is back to cut their hair, more talking going on than cutting. I hope there is a betting shop next door. God bless Alf and don,t work too hard.

I’ll always remember Alf taking Peter and other members of Dubmire junior school football team to midweek away matches in his car (when nobody had a car -1960). Sitting in the back seat I’d often think he had the curly hair, sideburns and moustache you only used to see in films and wondered whether he did his own? There’s a lot of beards to sort out up there Alf. Condolences to the family.
i remember going into “SIR” Alfs and asking him to give me a DAVID BOWIE, well after only a few minutes of his trusty shears and his No2 i shuffled off his chair, “scalped !! and Alf asking, “who,s david bowie ???
So sorry to read this- belatedly!- Alf was a good friend of my uncle, Tom Hudson, they joined the Navy together. I got into trouble for letting his Dad cut my hair once, as a little girl, told him to take 3 pen’orth off the back! My mother was not pleased! Anne Robinson
