The former Thompson Plastics factory on the Dubmire Industrial Estate at Houghton le Spring, Co Durham, is available free for a year, including injection moulding equipment.

Although the contents of the unit – a total of nine machines – could have been sold off separately, site owner Andy Eavis is keen to maintain the factory in its entirety as he has no wish to dismantle a valuable local commodity and source of jobs in the region.

“With the UK slowly emerging from recession, manufacturing growing and local firms like Nissan and CAT finding their order books filling up again, I think the time is ideal for an entrepreneur to take on this opportunity,” said Eavis.

“I’m willing to offer not only a year’s free rent but also offer a free press with a new cost price of £250,000 to the right person. What’s more, there’s an excellent, experienced local workforce who know exactly how to operate the machinery and who are very keen to get started again.”
