Alfred Bloomfield -World War 1

Hi There,

Just came across your website for the first time and am very impressed.

I don’t know whether the attached is of any interest to you or whether any of your readers might be of help to me in researching my father’s WW1 army service history.

As will be seen from the attachment, there is obviously a Fencehouses/Burnmoor/Lambton Estates connection and any information or help anyone is able to provide would be greatly appreciated. I have lots more documentation on the subject ( too much to attach to an e mail) but I would be happy to discuss this with anyone who is interested.

    Hi Eric
I found this really interesting. My great-grandmother, Margaret, was a Bloomfield. Her father was Samuel Bloomfield who was born in Suffolk in about 1841. She had an older brother called Alfred Bloomfield who was born in about 1865, also in Suffolk. We think Samuel may have married and had two children in Suffolk and then moved north where he married a lady called Ann who was born in Walker, Northumberland. The Bloomfields lived around Tunstall and Silksworth for many years. Alfred, however, seems to have been living in Gateshead by 1911. Was your dad, Alfred, related to my Alfred in any way? Maybe his son? Could we be related? I live in Australia and would love to hear from you if we are related!
    Regards
    Annmarie

      Hi Annmarie

Lovely to hear from you and so sorry for taking so long to reply. Don’t know if there is any connection between your family and mine as there seem to be a lot of Bloomfields in both the Suffolk and Norfolk counties of England. My father, Alfred Bloomfield was born in Hartlepool,Co Durham on 16 April 1894 but his his parents and grandparents came from Norfolk where they were farm workers. I’ve done a little research into my family history but haven’t come up with any connection with Tunstall or Silksworth or Gateshead areas on my side although Fencehouses and Burnmoor where they lived are not too far away.

I’d be happy to discuss more if you think it worthwhile. Try me on exb@hotmail.co.uk

      Regards

      Eric

Justing wanting to know if the “Bloomfields” and the “Blomfields” are one in the same. I am the great-great-great-granddaughter of Alfred Blomfield who immigrated to New Zealand somewhere between his birth in approx 1865 and his marriage to my great-great-great-grandmother Elizabeth Ann Kissell in 1888. I have come to a dead-end in my search and would dearly love to know where and to whom he was born. Any light you may be able to shed would be fantastic.

    Thanks, Anthea

      Hello Anthea Higgins

Lovely to hear from you. I’m sure there may be some connection in the distant past between the Blomfields and Bloomfields but I think they will now be regarded as seperate surnames. There is plenty of evidence of Bloomfields in both Norfolk and Suffolk, my ancestors coming from the former county where they were farm workers.

Don’t know if this is of any help but I’d be happy to talk some more if it would be helpful. exb@hotmail.co.uk

      Regards

      Eric Bloomfield
